Expendables 2 Poster Confirms It's Going To Be Awesome

James Badge Dale Could Join Die Hard 5

Deadline reports that four actors are in the final stage of casting for the role of John McClane's (Willis) son in A Good Day To Die Hard. The actors in question include James Badge Dale, Liam Hemsworth, Aaron Paul and D.J. Cotrona (G.I. Joe 2). Previously names like Ben Foster, Milo Ventimiglia and Paul Dano were in the running. The fifth Die Hard film in the franchise will be directed by John Moore and will be released on February 14th 2013.

James Badge Dale is the best of the bunch with a solid number of credits like The Departed, HBO's The Pacific and Steve McQueen's Shame. He also fits the right age range for the role. Since the son should be around 27-28 years old in the film. Liam Hemsworth is gaining steam taking roles in Hunger Games and Expendables 2. Hemsworth is also on a shortlist to play King Arthur in Arthur And Lancelot. Aaron Paul is interesting as he's developed a lot of popularity from his series Breaking Bad. The only issue is that Paul might have to pass because of the film will conflict with the shooting of the final season. D.J. might be the cost-friendly of the group as he's pretty much unknown. The key part of this casting is that whoever ends up in the role will likely keep the franchise going in future installments.

Major Updates On Die Hard 5!

Die Hard 5 is quickly coming together with the official title of A Good Day To Die Hard and the release date of February 14th 2013. John Moore (Behind Enemy Lines) will be directing with Bruce Willis coming back for one more ride as the iconic John McClane. The fifth film follows McClane as he travels to Russia to get his son out of jail, but accidentally uncovers a terrorist plot.

Variety reports a shortlist of actors who will test for the role of McClane's son. The list includes Ben Foster (Messenger, Rampart, Mechanic), Aaron Paul (Breaking Bad), Milo Ventimiglia (Pathology, Gamer) and Paul Dano (There Will Be Blood, Cowboys & Aliens). Paul Walker is also a studio hopeful but will not be testing. There is talk that this actor will carry on the Die Hard franchise similar to how Jeremy Renner is replacing Tom Cruise for future Mission Impossible films. Knowing that this actor could keep the franchise going I'd prefer Ben Foster getting the job since he's able to handle drama and mindless action. Yet, I wouldn't count out Milo and Aaron who are both interesting enough to keep up with Willis.

Arnold Schwarzenegger tweeted this first image from the set of Expendables 2. Which shows Arnold alongside Stallone and Bruce Willis. I'm beyond excited for this action star filled epic in the making.

Scott Adkins Joins Expendables 2

Yet another rising action star has joined the adrenaline fueled Expendables 2. MovieHole reports that British up and coming martial artist Scott Adkins will play Jean-Claude Van Damme's henchman. Adkins and Van Damme have previously worked together on The Shepard, Assassin Games and the upcoming Universal Soldier: A New Dimension. Scott has appeared as a badass fighter in films like The Tournament, Unleashed (Danny The Dog) along with the body/stunt double for Deadpool in X-Men Origins: Wolverine. He's also reasonable for creating a beast of a character with Undisputed 2 & 3's Yuri Boyka. I really hope this role ends up helping out Scott breakout into mainstream Hollywood projects.

Currently the sequel's impressive cast includes Sly Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Bruce Willis, Mickey Rourke, Jason Statham, Jet Li, Terry Crews, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Chuck Norris and Liam Hemsworth (Hunger Games). It's set for an August 17th 2012 release date with it's production starting up very soon.

Liam Hemsworth Joins Expendables 2

ShowBlitz has word that Liam Hemsworth (Hunger Games) has just signed on for Expendables 2. The Australian actor is the younger brother of Chris Hemsworth (Thor, Avengers, Red Dawn) and is becoming a rising star in Hollywood. Stallone had previously stated the sequel would be looking at a new blood for a Navy Seal role. "We also need some new blood in there, a Navy Seal-type, because with the Expendables none of them have 20-20 vision anymore. They need some help, man.”

Stallone Confirms JCVD & Chuck Norris For Expendables 2

EW talked with Sly Stallone, who is about to start production on The Expendables 2. He confirmed previous rumors that Jean-Claude Van Damme and Chuck Norris will have roles in the film. Sly also added that he'd love to see John Travolta, Nicolas Cage and Michael Biehn take roles if they're weren't too busy. I'd love to see Biehn join the cast considering his badass roles in films like Terminator, Aliens, Abyss, Tombstone, The Rock and Planet Terror.

It was recently announced that Arnold Schwarzenegger and Bruce Willis would be joining the film reprising their roles established in the first installment. They join returners Stallone, Jet Li, Jason Statham, Terry Crews, Dolph Lundgren, Randy Couture and Mickey Rourke. Simon West is handling directing duties this time around and I'm hoping Sly will also be actively involved with the creative sides of things.

Schwarzenegger Officially Playing Trench Mauser In Expendables 2

Deadline reports that a deal has been made for both Arnold Schwarzenegger and Bruce Willis to take on rather large roles in Expendables 2. The two had cameos in the first film which seemed to give a tease of what could happen down the line. Arnold's character was named Trench Mauser and seemed to be a good friend Stallone's character it's unknown which side he'll take in the film. On the other hand there has been no secret of the intentions of Willis' Church who will be in villain of the action epic. Jean-Claude Van Damme had also been linked for a villain role but it has yet to be official. The returning cast includes Jason Statham, Dolph Lundgren, Mickey Rourke, Terry Crews and Jet Li.

John Moore Hired To Direct Die Hard 5

Deadline reports that Irish director John Moore (Behind Enemy Lines) has been hired to make Die Hard 5. Bruce Willis will be returning to play the iconic role of John McClane one more time. Moore had been tapped for RED 2 but now is out of the running. Filming will take place in Russia so this might give some insight into the film's storyline. Willis is very busy these days shooting G.I. Joe 2, along with upcoming productions of Expendables 2 and RED 2.

Simon West Will Direct Expendables 2

Deadline reports that Simon West will direct Expendables 2. There isn't word if they have a script finished but at least we now have confirmation Stallone won't be directing this time around. There has also been confirmation of sorts that Bruce Willis and Jean-Claude Van Damme will play villains in the film.

Simon's previous films Mechanic, Con Air and The General's Daughter are decent action efforts so he seems like the right director for the job. It will be interesting to see what happens with Red Sonja as West was attached to direct that film as well. Considering Red Sonja is likely to go next before Conan 2 goes into production.

Rian Johnson's Looper Gets Release Date

Sony has picked up Rian Johnson's violent time-travelling action thriller Looper. They've slated to release it on September 28th 2012. Looper stars Bruce Willis, Joesph Gordon-Levitt, Emily Blunt, Piper Perabo, Jeff Daniels, Paul Dano and Garret Dillahunt. I'm expecting big things from Looper and it has the potential to be a science fiction action film on the level of the original Total Recall.

RUMOR: Jean-Claude Van Damme A Villain In Expendables 2?

MovieWeb is reporting that along with JCVD being confirmed for Expendables 2 which broke a few months back. He will be playing a villain likely working with Bruce Willis' Church. MovieWeb is not my favorite site to source as they've posted nothing but false stories and gossip lately. Yet it's apparently coming from the director that broke the news Jean-Claude was confirmed for the sequel.

Release Date For Expendables 2 In 2012

It looks like Lionsgate is moving forward with Expendables 2 as the studio has announced the release date of August 17th 2012. Sly Stallone has come out to say he won't be directing the film but a script is underway written by David Agosto and Ken Kaufman. Bruce Willis' Church has been mentioned as returning as the film's main villain along with a possible larger role for Arnold Schwarzenegger. Also talk of Jean-Claude Van Damme coming in after turning down the first film. It's unknown who will be returning but it's expected the main lineup will be back. Currently there isn't an official director or start date in place.

Arnold Schwarzenegger is BACK

Now that the Governor is done heading budget meetings, many sources say he’s officially considering offers. What could this mean? When taking into account his recent cameos in Terminator 4 (virtual) and The Expendables it’s more than possible that he could be starting his comeback in their upcoming sequels. It’s already been reported that Expendables 2 is making major additions to the casting list by the possible addition of Jean Claude Van Damme and expanding Bruce Willis’ previous cameo to a major role. Also MTV reports that Universal Studios is strongly considering handing the Terminator franchise to director Justin Lin and screenwriter Chris Morgan. The combo is currently handling the “Fast and Furious” franchise. Their newest installment “Fast Five” (the fifth movie of the franchise) is basically a big reunion of characters from the previous four films. It’s a loose potential comparison but when considering that casting assemblage, if Justin Lin and Chris Morgan take over the Terminator Franchise, the Governor might make a “real” appearance in the near future.

Fox Hires Director For Die Hard 5

Deadline reports 20th Century Fox has hired Noam Murro to direct the yet untitled Die Hard 5. Appearently the director impressed Fox brass during his latest Halo movie pitch. I'm not sure how a pitch proves his abilities to direct a Die Hard film but it could work out. Bruce Willis, who has voiced his desire to make the fifth film has yet to officially sign on. It looks like Fox is going ahead with the script from Skip Woods (A-Team) which had been rumored to have been scrapped. Not much is known about the plot but there have been rumors another Gruber sibling could be the film's villain.

Daniel Espinosa Tops Bruce Willis' Wishlist To Direct Die Hard 5

Bruce Willis is eager to make Die Hard 5 as Vulture reports the actor is meeting with potentinal directors himself. Daniel Espinosa is on the top of Willis' wishlist to take on the fifth film. It's likely that Willis is grinding out as many action roles as possible before he's unable to do them anymore. He's currently shooting Looper and has a few more action roles in the works including a sequel to Red and The Expendables.

Espinosa is about to start production on his thriller Safe House starring Ryan Reynolds and Denzel Washington. The Swedish director made a big slash last year with his crime thriller Snabba Cash. He ended up meeting with 20th Century Fox to direct X-Men First Class and Wolverine 2. Espinosa would be amazing director for what could be the last film in the franchise. The only problem is that Fox has rejected the script from Skip Woods and haven't announced a new writing team.

JCVD Likely To Join Expendables 2 & Steven Segal Will Not?

MovieHole picked up some quotes from writer/director Sheldon Lettich (Double Impact) who is still friends with Jean-Claude Van Damme and is working on Double Impact 2 with him. He  mentions the action star is leaning towards making Expendables 2. Jean-Claude famously turned down a role in the first film and has since regretted his decision. He also says that the involvement of Steven Segal could be an issue for Expendables producer Avi Lerner who has a bad history with Segal.

“JC seems to be leaning towards appearing in the sequel, as far as I know. If Steven Seagal is not in the sequel, from what I’ve heard it won’t be because of Sly but because of producer Avi Lerner, who had a few bad experiences with Steven.”

While Jean-Claude's last decent film that was playing in theaters was 1996's Maximum Risk. He's been able to make some decent films such as the dramatic turn in JCVD and solid return to action with Universal Solider: Regeneration. I believe like Arnold Schwarzenegger, Van Damme has a limited amount of action roles left in him and Expendables 2 could be a great end to his career in the genre.

Paul Dano, Xu Qing, Jeff Daniels, Piper Perabo & Noah Segan Join Looper

Variety reports that a slew of actors have joined Rian Johnson's time traveling hitman thriller Looper. The science fiction film already has Joseph Gordon-Levitt (Inception), Bruce Willis and Emily Blunt cast as the leads. Now Paul Dano (There Will Be Blood), Xu Qing, Jeff Daniels (Squid & The Whale, Lookout), Piper Perabo (Coyote Ugly, Carriers) and Noah Segan (Brick, Brothers Bloom).

Actors In Talks For Wes Anderson's Moon Rise Kingdom

Deadline reports Wes Anderson is moving forward with his next live-action film Moon Rise Kingdom. Bruce Willis, Edward Norton, Tilda Swinton, Francis McDormand and Anderson regular Bill Murray are in talks for roles. Co-written by Wes and Roman Coppola the film is set to start production in late spring. I would expect it to be released during fall of next year in time for awards season.

Set in the 60's two young adults fall in love and run away. Leaders in their New England town are sticking the idea that they've disappeared and go in search of them. Norton will play a scout leader who brings his charges on a search. Willis is in talks to play the town sheriff who’s also looking, and who is having an affair with the missing girl’s mother, the role McDormand is in talks to play. Murray, a regular in Anderson films, will play the girl's father, who has his own issues.

Charlie Sheen Joining Expendables 2?

It seems that it doesn't matter how terrible you are in your personal life there is a role for you in Expendables 2. Charlie Sheen is rumored to be in mind for ”a washed-up-but-useful CIA type” role. Bruce Willis is of course in talks for the villain and Arnold Schwarzenegger is likely to have a bigger role too. I wouldn't doubt seeing Mel Gibson joining too since he seems desperate enough after getting bumped from Hangover 2.
