Deadline reports that Sony is moving forward the two sequels to David Fincher's The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. Screenwriter Steve Zaillian has finished scripts for both The Girl Who Played With Fire and The Girl Who Kicked The Hornets Nest. However, Fire will end up getting massive changes to include Lisbeth (Mara) as more of a central characters. Rooney Mara and Daniel Craig are apparently locked in for the two sequels. David Fincher on the other hand has yet to sign on to return in the director's chair. They say that shooting could start by the end of 2012 or early 2013. Fincher previously stated that the films could shoot back-to-back if they were greenlit.
It's very likely that David Fincher will return for the sequels as he's been mentioning his involvement in the trilogy since day one. I'm sure it will all come down to budgets for the two productions and creative control before his signs on. There is zero mention of Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross returning but considering the buzz the score and cover songs did for the film. I would be shocked if Fincher/Sony didn't ask them to come back as well. I assume the the big rewrites are also to further distance the Fincher films from the Swedish movies.

RUMOR: Could Ralph Fiennes Become The New M?
When Ralph Fiennes originally was linked to Bond23 now titled Skyfall, it was assumed he'd be playing a villain. Previously there had been rumors Ralph could be playing the legendary Bond villain Blofeld. The villain had appeared in seven Bond films and was last seen in Never Say Never Again (1983). A new report from MovieWeb (via BadassDigest) could see Fiennes perhaps replacing Judi Dench as M. Judi is still confirmed for Skyfall so there could be a changing of the guard during the film. Instead of just changing actors between films showing a transition could be interesting. It seems to be similar to Ben Whishaw reprising the role of Q. There had also been rumors of Moneypenny returning but that hasn't been made official. MovieWeb isn't the greatest source as a lot of their "stories" end up being second hand gossip or just made-up. I feel Fiennes is one of the greatest actors to portray a villain so I wouldn't count him out as a baddie.

Dragon Tattoo Sequels Could Shoot In The Next 12-18 Months
TheNewYorkTimes (via ThePlaylist) reports while David Fincher hasn't officially committed to sequels to The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo they will be shot within the next 12-18 months. It's not mentioned but it had been rumored the two sequels The Girl Who Played With Fire and The Girl Who Kicked The Hornet's Nest would be shot back-to-back.
The only issue here would be if Fincher had to go back to working on Disney's 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea. I've noticed one big thing about Dragon Tattoo that being the stunning amount of sets and production design. If David and his team didn't already have production designs set for the sequels (which I assume they do considering they're extensive stay in Sweden for the first film's shoot), they would need a lot more time. Here's hoping that Fincher quickly moves on finishing the trilogy before moving on to other things.

Ben Whisaw Will Play Q In Skyfall
It was mentioned around the time that Quantum of Solace came out that Daniel Craig was interested in bringing back the character Q, who had been a staple of the franchise. Q was responsible for a majority of Bond's gadgets which would save his skin more than once. HollywoodReporter says that Ben Whisaw (Perfume, Layer Cake) who was confirmed for the new film will play Q in Skyfall. The Q scenes were mostly for comedic effect but considering the tone of the new Bond films it's unlikely there will be too many jokes cracked.

Skyfall Official Title Of Bond 23, Cast Confirmed
Bond 23's official title will be Skyfall. The title had been rumored for a couple of weeks but is now confirmed. The official cast lineup has also been announced which includes Daniel Craig, Judy Dench, Javier Bardem (No Country For Old Men), Naomie Harris (28 Days Later), Bérénice Marlohe, Ralph Fiennes, Albert Finney (Miller's Crossing) and Ben Whishaw (Layer Cake, Perfume). While most of the new cast hasn't been given character names it was revealed that Naomie will play field agent Eve (not Miss Moneypenny) and Bérénice will play a Bond girl named Severin. The film will still have large action pieces and it was confirmed that it will be it's own story not being connected to the previous two installments. Skyfall will hit North American theaters on November 9th 2012.
"In SKYFALL, Bond’s loyalty to M is tested as her past comes back to haunt her. As MI6 comes under attack, 007 must track down and destroy the threat, no matter how personal the cost."

Albert Finney Joins Bond 23
Legendary actor Albert Finney (Miller's Crossing) has joined Sam Mendes' (Road To Perdition) Bond 23 (Skyfall?) according to ThePlaylist . He joins newcomers Ralph Fiennes, Javier Bardem, Ben Whishaw (Layer Cake, Purfume), Naomie Harris (Miami Vice, Pirates 2-3), Helen McCrory (Deathly Hallows 1-2) and Berenice Marlohe. Returners include Daniel Craig and Judi Dench along with Rory Kinnear who played M's assistant in Quantum.
Finney's role is unknown but there has been talk of bringing back the iconic role of Q. Who is the supplier and inventor of Bond's useful gadgets. Since Naomie Harris is playing Miss Moneypenny it might not be out of the question. There has been talk of the action scenes being scaled down in favor for Oscar contentions and to make it more thrilling/grounded.

Ben Whishaw In Talks For Role In Bond23, Titled Carte Blanche?
There is talk that Ben Whishaw (Layer Cake, Perfume, Cloud Atlas) could be up for a role in Bond 23 but nothing was official. Playlist was able to confirm from the actor's reps that he has talked with producers, yet nothing more than that. Currently the only confirmed actors include Daniel Craig, Judi Dench, Ralph Finnes, Javier Bardem and Naomie Harris with Sam Mendes directing. Also, the rumor is that the title of the film will be Carte Blanche. Based on the title of the 37th Bond book written by Jeffery Deaver. The film is expected to have a November 9th 2012 release date.
Naomie Harris In Talks For Bond 23 Role?
ThePlaylist has found some tidbits that Naomie Harris (Pirates 2-3, 28 Days Later, Miami Vice) could be in talks for role in Sam Mendes' Bond 23. They don't name the role but in interviews Harris herself confirmed the talks. I can't see her in a Bond girl role as she seems a bit too talented for the part. However if they decide to introduce Money Penny, Naomie would be a great choice.

David Fincher's Dragon Tattoo Remake Trailer Coming June 2nd
It looks like France and Sweden are already enjoying the first footage from David Fincher's The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. Sony has released a Red-Band trailer in those countries for the remake which stars Daniel Craig and Rooney Mara. There is word that Sony will release a domestic trailer on June 2nd.
Steve Zaillian Currently Writing The Girl Who Played With Fire But Will It Be Next For Fincher?
Deadline reports that Steve Zaillian (Schindler's List, Gangs of New York) is currently writing the script for the second film in the Millennium trilogy for director David Fincher. Zaillian is an accomplished writer who is also currently working on The Red Riding Trilogy remakes and the new gangster flick The Irishman for Martin Scorsese.
This gives the impression production could be moving quickly on the second installment. There had been talk that the final two films in the trilogy The Girl Who Played With Fire and The Girl Who Kicked The Hornet's Nest would be shot back to back. It would make sense to shoot the two films at once to save money on production costs along with being able to keep the in-demand Daniel Craig in the lead role.
The same story brings up a new project for Fincher which has Sony looking to him to direct their new Cleopatra film which has Angelina Jolie attached in the lead. It's unlikely as it could end up conflicting with Disney's 20, 000 Leagues Under The Sea: Captain Nemo which Fincher has been involved with for a while now.
Fincher is in a unique position where he can make a passion project over a commercial studio project like Captain Nemo or Cleopatra. I wouldn't rule out Fincher moving forward with Fire and Hornet's Nest before jumping into these effects heavy and time consuming blockbusters. As the turn around time for post-production on the Millennium films would be minimal as everything is in camera and special effects would be limited.

Javier Bardem Confirms Bond Villain Offer
LATimes was able to get confirmation from Javier Bardem that if he joins Sam Mendes' Bond 23 he'll play the villain. Bardem would be an excellent addition to the world of Bond and could help damage control from the underwhelming Quantum of Solace. I just hope they keep the title simple this time around. The 23rd film of the franchise will hit theaters November 9th 2012.
Javier also mentions they're changing the dynamic. I'm not sure what he means but it could have something to do with previous rumors of the plot. It had been rumored that the Afghanistan heroin trade and a female villain would be plot points for the film. It seems both elements might have been scrapped.
They could also be bringing back Q and the gadgets as previously mentioned by Daniel Craig. I would also expect that the next Bond girl could more than just a damsel in distress. I'd love to see a female MI6 agent with 00 status giving Bond a run for his money. Hopefully played by Felicity Jones or Rebecca Hall.
“They’re changing the whole thing, the whole dynamic..I’d be playing Bond’s nemesis, yes, but it’s not that obvious. Everything is more nuanced. It’s very intriguing.”

Javier Bardem Offered Villain Role In Bond 23?
Deadline reports that Spanish Oscar winning actor Javier Bardem (No Country For Old Men) has been offered a role in Sam Mendes' untitled Bond 23. Bardem has also been linked for Ron Howard's Dark Tower. While the role is unknown it's expected he could play the villain as it's the best secondary part in Bond films.

Yorick van Wageningen Joins David Fincher's Girl With The Dragon Tattoo
ThePlaylist reports that Dutch actor Yorick van Wageningen (Chronicles of Riddick) has been cast in David Fincher's The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. Yorick will play Lisbeth Salander's court appointed guardian and it's expected the pivotal role will spill over to the sequels. The first film in the trilogy will hit theaters on December 21st. It's impressive cast includes Daniel Craig, Rooney Mara (Social Network), Robin Wright, Stellan Skarsgård, Christopher Plummer and Arly Jover (Blade, Empire of Wolves). The next two films are expected to be filmed back to back.
Bond 23 Coming Nov 9th 2012 & Sam Mendes Still Directing
HeatVision reports MGM has finally got their act together and pulled together their highly anticipated 23rd installment of the Bond franchise. Bond 23 has yet to be given an official title but has a release of November 9th 2012. Also Sam Mendes (Road To Perdition, American Beauty) is still in the director's chair which is a sigh of relief for Bond fans. Daniel Craig will return as well and it's likely it could be his last time playing the legendary spy.
The script was written by Bond alumni Neal Purvis , Robert Wade and John Logan (Last Samurai, Gladiator, Aviator). Paul Haggis (Million Dollar Baby) who worked on the scripts for Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace is not involved this time around. Peter Morgan (The Queen, Last King of Scotland) had been hired to write a treatment but it looks like has left.

Trent Reznor Scoring Fincher's The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo
SlashFilm reports that Nine Inch Nails front man Trent Reznor will score David Fincher's The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. Reznor previously worked on Fincher's Social Network which was beyond powerful. He states he's worked on the film for six weeks and the music will be different from The Social Network. I expect since Lisabeth Slander is an industrial punk hacker it could be more influenced by electronic and punk pieces. The type of music Nine Inch Nails was known for in the 90's.
