Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Reboot Finally Has Writers

Yet another long in development comic book reboot has a screenwriter. Deadline reports Paramount has set writers Josh Appelbaum and Andre Nemec to develop a script for the new live-action Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles reboot. The pair wrote Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol which is also a sort of reboot as well with Jeremy Renner poised to continue the series. Along with Now You See Me the magic-themed heist film that will be directed by Louis Leterrier (Incredible Hulk). Platinum Dunes will he handling the production side of the film. The studio is known for horror reboots Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Friday The 13th and Nightmare On Elm Street.

Paramount seems to be scrambling lately to put together event films to replace Avengers and Iron Man 3. It's also likely that Disney will also take over distribution for future Captain America and Thor sequels. They will have to start backing their own properties without piggybacking on Marvel Studios features. There has been talk this version would be more faithful to the source material which was less family friendly and full of violence.

McG & Breck Eisner Frontrunners To Direct Ouija

TheHollywoodReporter says that McG (This Means War) and Breck Eisner (The Crazies) are the frontrunners to direct Universal's Ouija. The supernatural adventure film written by Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz (Tron Legacy) is becoming a priory for the studio with a set release date of November 9th 2012. It's being compared to films like The Mummy, Indiana Jones and Pirates of The Caribbean.

Other directors who presented pitches included Sylvain White (The Losers), Pierre Morel (Taken), Scot Stewart (Legion) and John Moore (Max Payne). McG would be my choice out of the two since the Charlie Angels films were entertaining enough and even his disappointing Terminator Salvation was still fun to watch. His next film This Means War could very well be a great action comedy.

Writers Hired For Monster Squad Remake

HeatVision reports Paramount/Platinum Dunes has hired cousins Mark and Brian Gunn to a pen a family friendly Monster Squad reboot which could have franchise possibilities. The original co-created/written by Shane Black (Lethal Weapon 1-4) had subversive sexual imagery it even had children making silver bullets in school and firing guns. It was pretty much a horror version of The Goonies. I loved it growing up but I'm not sure how new audiences will react to children fighting monsters. The only issue I have is that Rob Cohen (Mummy 3, Fast & The Furious) is directing who isn't known for making good movies. It's unknown what monsters will appear but the original lineup was Dracula, Wolfman, Mummy, Gillman and a friendly Frankenstein.
