Michelle Rodriguez Joins Resident Evil Retribution
BloodyDisgusting has another returner casting update this time concerning Resident Evil: Retribution. Michelle Rodriguez will reprise her role of Rain Ocampo in the film, giving more fuel of the prequel talk. Previously Sienna Guillroy (Jill Valentine), Colin Solomon and Shawn Roberts (Wesker) have been confirmed as returning to the franchise. The key is that the latter two have been killed off in previous films. Milla Jovovich had also confirmed via Twitter that the characters K-Mart, Chris Redfield and Claire Redfield would not be in this installment. While new characters Leon Kennedy, Barry Burton and Ada Wong would be featured.
Milla Jovovich Gives An Update On Resident Evil 5
The early talk of Resident Evil 5 is that it would be a prequel focusing on the origins of both Alice and Jill Valentine (Sienna Guillory) bringing back the setting to Raccoon City. Unlike previous films it sounds like Valentine would be the focus of the film. Milla Jovovich has posted some updates on her Twitter account. One of them being the possible title Resident Evil: Retribution which seems a little more on point than the working title of Resident Evil: Begins. She also says they'll be heading back to Tokyo to film scenes. While Milla doesn't confirm Paul is directing she does say he's working on the script. We'll see familiar characters and some new ones. Hopefully this means they'll finally be able to use Leon which has had a rather large group of fans rallying around Jensen Ackles (Supernatural, My Bloody Valentine) for the role.
While I hated both Resident Evil 2 and 3 I felt that Afterlife was a step in the right direction as it delivered more on the gimmick side of the franchise. I just expect now that it's made money the fifth time around they could pump in some money for better digital effects which have always been terrible.

Resident Evil 5 Titled Resident Evil: Begins Coming September 2012
BloodyDisgusting is reporting that Screen Gems is moving forward with Resident Evil 5 which will be officially titled Resident Evil: Begins. The reboot/prequel will center on Jill Valentine played by Sienna Guillory as Raccoon City is slowly overrun with a T-Virus outbreak caused by Umbrella. Milla Jovovich will still be in the film but as a supporting character. It's possible the film will be horror focused and have more of serious/grounded tone than previous films. They've set the release date for September 14th 2012 but have yet to announce a director. It's expected that Paul W.S. Anderson will be involved either writing the film's script or just keeping the regular duties as producer.
Resident Evil 5 Coming 2012, Milla Jovovich Returning
Screen Gems has announced that Resident Evil 5 will be released on September 14th 2012. It looks like previous plans to reboot the franchise have been scrapped as Milla Jovovich is returning for the fifth installment. It's unknown at this point if Paul W.S. Anderson will be back in the director's chair but it's very likely.
It's expected that Ali Larter (Claire), Wentworth Miller (Chris) and Boris Kodjoe (Luther) will also be returning. Continuing the events of Afterlife which saw Alice, Claire and Chris on the ship with survivors as a fleet of Umbrella choppers swarms them. Jill Valentine (Sienna Guillory) is expected to be the film's main villain as she was seen in the chopper with the mind controlling scarab device in her chest. Milla recently tweeted a possible "big-boss" villain could be the Bandersnatch.
"The games have nearly always had a major mutant to battle against. In the coming Resident Evil 5 movie, I think the 'Bandersnatcher' should be the next boss battle. This creature looks like Swamp Thing on steroids and with one arm that can stretch to 6x it's length."
