Fox Develops New Sci-Fi Adventure Film, McG Might Direct

Deadline reports that 20th Century Fox has acquired an untitled pitch for a large-scale science fiction adventure film with McG attached to produce which he is looking to direct. The project's script is from David Callaham (The Expendables).

McG looked like he was going to be the next big action director. He made some impressive female driven action films with Charlie's Angels 1-2. A very difficult genre to be successful in but he came out with a decent pair of flicks. He later had the daunting task of rebooting the Terminator franchise and caught a lot of flack from fans when it got a mild PG-13 rating. McG didn't make a great film but Salvation was better and bigger in scale than Terminator 3 was.

He's now finishing up post-production on This Means War for Fox which could bring him back on pace. As the film stars action stars Chris Pine (Star Trek) and Tom Hardy (Inception, Mad Max, Dark Knight Rises) fighting for the affection of Reese Witherspoon while tearing up a city in the process. It sounds like a mix between Mr. & Mrs. Smith meets Charlie's Angels which could end up more entertaining than either of those films. McG is also attached to direct Ouija for Universal which is written by Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis (Tron Legacy).

Sam Worthington Offered Lead In This Means War

Vulture reports Fox has offered Sam Worthington a lead role in McG's (Terminator Salvation, Charile's Angels) action rom-com This Means War. The project seems to be troubled as it's been bumped to different directors, writers and many actors have passed on it (Seth Rogen, Bradley Cooper). Two best friends and veteran spies who wage black-ops warfare on each other when they both fall for the same girl. Currently Reese Witherspoon and Chris Pine (Star Trek) are the only names attached to the film. It's likely Worthington will pass on it since he's been recently cast in a bunch of projects.
