Chennai: Defending champions Chennai Super Kings emerged winners in the final of IPL-4 after they defeated Bangalore Royal Challengers by 58 runs at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Saturday.
The biggest blow for Bangalore came in the very first over, when R Ashwin sent danger-man Chris Gayle back to pavilion. Ashwin was Chennai`s lethal weapon against the Jamaican in the last game too.
As the Bangalore batsmen were struggling to find momentum in their chase, Ashwin and Jakati played havoc on them. The only worthwhile performance came in the form of Virat Kohli, who scored 35 off 32 balls. He showed some resistance while wickets fell at a regular interval in his team.
Earlier, a record partnership between Michael Hussey and Murali Vijay powered the defending champions, putting up a huge total of 205 before Royal Challengers Bangalore.

Vijay missed out on a century when he was caught by Daniel Vettori off Sreenath Aravind`s bowling. Hussey, too, played his role perfectly well before he was caught at long-on by Chris Gayle. He departed scoring 63 off 45 balls. The pair gave Chennai the much needed momentum. The first six of the innings came from Vijay off Aravind at the end of the second over. Soon, Hussey followed suit with a six, over deep backward square leg off Zaheer Khan. Those massive hits set the pace for Chennai to a glorious win.
