TheDailyMail (via BleedingCool) was able to get quotes from Tom Hardy (Dark Knight Rises, Bronson, Inception) on his prep for his role in Cicero. The film would focus on the rise to power of notorious gangster Al Capone. Capone's famous life and the Chicago mafia was the inspiration for Scarface, Untouchables, St. Valentine's Day Massacre , Boardwalk Empire and many others. Back in March, Deadline reported that Harry Potter director David Yates would be directing the project with an old unused script from Walon Green (Wild Bunch, Terminator 2) that was written back in the 70's for a television series.
"I’ve been working with Warner Bros, watching their gangster films — the ones with James Cagney, Humphrey Bogart and Edward G. Robinson. It’s interesting to get them, and a bit of Capone, into the bloodstream. You look at pugnacious James Cagney in The Public Enemy and see how this guy rises up to become a kingpin in Chicago."
"Hardy told me he will play the Depression-era Chicago crime tsar sometime next year and well into 2014, once he has completed work on a series of movies."
I love to hear that Tom is watching the classic gangster films since a majority of the contemporary films in the genre don't seem to match the quality. Tom's quotes could give the impression that the aim is that Cicero would be the first film in a possible trilogy. WB seems to be resurrecting the gangster period genre with Gangster Squad on the horizon that features L.A. hood Mickey Cohen (Sean Penn).
Hardy is about to start production on Mad Max: Fury Road for Warner Bros. and director George Miller which could push back Cicero's start until 2013. Fury has been rumored as the beginning of a new slew of films that could lead to sequels and spin-offs. However, there was talk that Charlize Theron's character could continue the franchise. There has also been talk after the success of Tinker, Tailor, Solider, Spy the studio behind it is pushing for sequels. I'm not sure how Hardy's character fits in the books but they'd be smart to bring him back.

David Yates Looking To Make Doctor Who Film
ShowBlitz reports that Harry Potter director David Yates is looking to make a new Doctor Who film. Yates is best known as the director of the latter Potter films which include Order of The Phoenix, The Half-Blood Prince and The Deathly Hollows 1-2. It's not ready to go just yet as Yates is currently looking at writers and believes the project is two years away from release. The film would be a fresh take and won't be influenced by the television series. This means previous actors are out of the running to play the lead. Yates has been choosing his next film carefully after Potter while he had been linked for some big studios he has yet to announce what is next.
While this is likely a year or so away from casting I think Tom Hiddleston (War Horse, Thor, Avengers) would make an excellent Doctor. Mainly because he's a talented actor with a great sense of drama and humor along with deserving a heroic/iconic role like this. I'm sure he'll end up with many human companions in the film. I would hope that the feisty Ruth Wilson (The Lone Ranger) who has been stealing scenes in BBC's Luther could have a role as well.

Could Christopher Nolan Make Twilight Zone For Warner Bros. ?
ShowBlitz has word that Warner Bros. is trying to nail-down a director to helm their new Twilight Zone project. Unlike the original which featured four directors (Spielberg, John Landis, Joe Dante, George Miller) filming four separate segments honoring the series. This new version will have one director and a single story. The site says that they have interest from Christopher Nolan, Michael Bay and Alfonso Cuarón (Children Of Men). David Yates (Deathly Hollows 1-2) had been interested but moved on, Rupert Wyatt (Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes) is also in the mix.
I was a big fan of Twilight Zone (film/series) and Outer Limits so this project sort of speaks to me. Even without the involvement of Nolan and Cuarón I'd be interested to see how it would turn out. Nolan seems a good bet as he could really reinvent this quirky genre and possibility develop it into a new franchise. The only problem is that Christopher Nolan is a one picture director and is still busy The Dark Knight Rises and I doubt he commit to this until he's in post. Bay seems an uninspiring choice as I'd rather see him make Bad Boys 3 instead of ruining something that could be a thrilling ride with seizure inducing visuals. Cuarón is slowly becoming a darling at the studio making Prisoner Of Azkaban and Gravity with George Clooney/Sandra Bullock starring. Rupert Wyatt could be interesting as this isn't a 20th Century Fox strangle-hold project and he might be able to go a bit darker. Fox more than likely has Rupert locked in for an Apes trilogy and could be asked to return to make another film sooner than later.

Could David Yates Direct The Al Capone Film Cicero?
Deadline also has word that David Yates is interested in directing the Al Capone film Cicero. The film written by Walon Green (Wild Bunch) would be an origin chronicling the early days and rise to power of a young Capone. Yates is best known for directing a large bulk of the Harry Potter films and now that Deathly Hollows Part 2 could be looking for something non-fantasy based to make.
