RUMOR: Bradley Cooper Playing Lex Luthor?

Bradley Cooper has been choosing a lot of odd projects lately which run the gauntlet of comedy, indie, action, blockbuster, genre and drama. Today's big rumor of the day brings Cooper back to the world of comic book roles. CosimicBookNews (via ComicBookMovie) "reports" that now that Paradise Lost's production is on hold Warner Bros. is looking for Cooper to make a cameo in Man of Steel as Lex Luthor.

At the moment this nothing but an interesting rumor but if the studio is really intent on making more Superman films Cooper isn't a bad casting choice for Lex. It had been mentioned a while back the studio might be already working on a sequel to Man of Steel. If true it could end up as brief as Russell Crowe's cameo as Jor-El, Superman's father.

Bradley had been previously rumored for Edgar Wright's Ant-Man. He also had some interest in Hal Jordan (Green Lantern) before being replaced by Ryan Reynolds and Eric Draven in the now dead Crow reboot.

Bradley Copper Not In Soderbergh's The Man From UNCLE

TheWrap reports that Bradley Cooper has left talks to star as Napoleon Solo in Steven Soderbergh's The Man From UNCLE. Warrior's Joel Edgerton had been offered the role of Russian Agent Illya Kuryakin. It seems like the Solo role is having a lot of trouble finding an actor to fill it. Previously actors like George Clooney, Matt Damon and Brad Pitt had been mentioned as in the mix.

Ryan Gosling, Michael Fassbender, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Alexander Skarsgard and Joel Kinnaman were originally mentioned before either Cooper and Edgerton got involved. Fassbender and Kinnaman have lined up other possible projects with the studio in the meanwhile. I wouldn't be shocked to see Ryan Gosling landing the role since Warner Bros. originally wanted him in the movie. Gosling had been linked for the role of but I could see him better suited for Solo. Joseph Gordon-Levitt is also gathering a massive amount of steam landing roles in The Dark Knight Rises and Django Unchained.

Joel Edgerton Offered Lead In The Man From UNCLE

Vulture reports that Joel Edgerton (Warrior, Animal Kingdom) has been offered the second lead in Steven Soderbergh's The Man From UNCLE. News of Edgerton being offered the lead in 300: The Battle of Artemisia had been revealed earlier today.

Bradley Cooper (Limitless, Hangover 1-2) had already landed the role of American spy Napoleon Solo, which had been vacated by George Clooney. Joel would play Russian spy Illya Kuryakin which had been linked to both Ryan Gosling and Joel Kinnaman. Kinnaman was recently offered an equally large role as Lancelot in the studio's Arthur & Lancelot. Oddly enough months back it was rumored that both Cooper and Edgerton were up for the lead in Ant-Man.

Could Joe Cornish Direct Ant-Man?

We've been hearing lots of updates concerning the script of Marvel Studios' Ant-Man which is being written by Edgar Wright and Joe Cornish. The pair previously worked together on Steven Spielberg's The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of The Unicorn that's being produced by Peter Jackson. Last thing we heard is that the duo handed in a second draft which the studio seemed thrilled about. Now word from HitFix is that they're aren't finished the script leading us to believe that a third draft is currently being worked on. Joe also stated Edgar hasn't been announced as the official director and that he would leave all the announcements about the film to him [Wright]. Marvel Studios has neither announced a release date or even a director for the film.


I'm getting the feeling that Joe might be in a better position to direct Ant-Man than Edgar. Cornish is slowly gathering steam as a director with his cult film Attack The Block and unlike Wright doesn't have his plate full of projects. Marvel is notoriously cheap and would likely lock a director into a two picture deal. Something I feel could be too much for Wright who does as much producing as he does directing. Likely wanting the breathing room to make his passion projects such as Baby Driver, Them and World's End along with producing other things. Cornish was recently linked as a candidate to direct A Good Day To Die Hard the fifth film in the Die Hard franchise before John Moore was hired.

Bradley Cooper Front-Runner For Soderbergh's Man From UNCLE

ShowBlitz reports Bradley Cooper (Limitless, Hangover) is now Steven Soderbergh's choice to play Napoleon Solo in The Man From Uncle. It's a big change from previous wanted names for the role like George Clooney who dropped out along with hopefuls Matt Damon, Johnny Depp and Michael Fassbender. It was previously mentioned was that Warner Bros. was keen on bringing in Ryan Gosling for the role of Russian Agent Illya Kuryakin. While Soderbergh wanted up and coming Swedish actor Joel Kinnaman (Dragon Tattoo, Snabba Cash 1-3, Safe House, Killing, Darkest Hour) for the part of Illya. I think since they're hoping to go with Cooper, Gosling seems a better bet as both actors have a rather decent sized following.

Edgar Wright's Ant-Man A Team Spy Film?

We've been getting a few hints on what we can expect from Marvel Studios' Ant-Man which is being written by Edgar Wright (Scott Pilgrim, Hot Fuzz) and Joe Cornish (Attack The Block, Tintin). From what is known we could be seeing a group of Ant-Men in a high-tech spy heist film. This makes a lot of sense considering neither Pym or Wasp won't be showing up in Avengers.

It will include at least two of the Ant-Men including Dr. Hank Pym and burglar turned-hero Scott Lang (2nd Ant-Man) which was confirmed by MTV. Also the film's leading lady Janet van Dyne wears a similar suit and is known as the Wasp. It would be nice to see another heroine in the film perhaps Lang's daughter Cassie. She becomes a Young Avenger known as Stature who shares the same powers as her father.
 
ThePlaylist was able to speak with Joe Cornish which he became coy when the question of Ant-Men was raised again. However, they mention several "Ant-Men" are rumored which could mean SHIELD Agent Eric O'Grady (3rd Ant-Man) could be in the film as well.

"We had heard that at one point Cornish and Wright were going to put several of the Ant-Men (meaning people that had put on superhero scientist Hank Pym’s suit) into the script, meaning that they could have thrown in our personal favorite Ant-Man – Eric O’Grady, low-level S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent turned shadily “Irredeemable” Ant Man."

Cornish smiled at our implication and said, slyly, “No comment.” He then started to say something, “Well, you know…” before shutting himself off with another “No comment.”


Edgar Wright talked to VanityFair about his vision for the film which will be a "high-tech spy heist film". The espionage angle gives further fuel that a team could be put together. Wright had been in contention to direct Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol which has a similar theme minus superpowers. I wouldn't be shocked to see Ant-Man closer to Bond or Mission Impossible than any of the other Marvel films.

"I think it's a really interesting high-concept idea. [...] I know there's a big stigma attached to it, mostly because every movie about shrinking has been about people in peril. I think it'd be great to do a shrinking film about a bad-ass secret agent. [...] Even something like The Incredible Shrinking Man, which is a fantastic film, is about a guy in trouble. But this is going to be nothing like that. It's essentially a high-tech spy heist film with somebody with a very particular power."

Warner Bros. & Legandary Pictures Developing Hangover 3

Deadline reports that both Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures are eager to move forward with Hangover 3. They've set screenwriter Craig Mazin who worked on Hangover 2 to write the third installment. This doesn't surprise anyone as director Todd Phillips and the cast have been mentioning loving to return for another film. Not to mention the $200 million dollar opening weekend worldwide. Phillips saying Hangover 2 is "the Empire Strikes Back of the Hangover trilogy". Along with the cast mentioning the next film could be set in Amsterdam.

I don't mind seeing a third film as the second was a better version of the original. With great new gags and interesting depraved bits. A few things I'd like to see removed from the sequel. First no more weddings it seems to be a crutch which the series doesn't need. Another thing the franchise doesn't need is non-comedians in supporting roles. I found the second film had way too many of Phillips' friends placed in small pointless roles. It should be focused on the three main guys and perhaps Mr. Chow. Since Ken Jeong pretty much made that film a million times funnier. There is something strange that there are only five professional comedians in a large comedy film like this. Hire people that are funny and if you're going to have cameos making them more exciting/known people.

Bradley Cooper In Talks For The Crow

HeatVision reports that Bradley Cooper is in early talks to take the role of Eric Draven in The Crow remake. The say that Cooper met with recently announced director Juan Carlos Fresnadillo (28 Weeks Later) in Spain about the film. Previously Mark Wahlberg had been linked for the role but it doesn't look like that will be happening.

Bradley Cooper Rumored Frontrunner For Daredevil, Garrett Hedlund Also Interested

This sounds more promising than the previous rumor that Robert Pattinson would take up the red jumpsuit in the Daredevil reboot. Two seperate new rumors suggest that Bradley Cooper (Hangover, Limitless) is the frontrunner and Garrett Hedlund (Troy, Tron Legacy) is also in the mix for the lead.

Garrett had been in the running for Captain America but dropped out early to commit to Tron Legacy and it's sequel. As the Captain America role we be a commitment to six films not leaving much room for Tron 3. Cooper also tested for a superhero role when he was almost locked in as Green Lantern until Ryan Reynolds swooped in and took the role. Bradley is becoming a bigger name but has yet to jump in role of an action lead. Besides his supporting role in the underwhelming A-Team which was a 20th Century Fox film. He's been linked for The Flash but seems like he had a bad experience testing for Green Lantern and won't be doing any DC films anytime soon. A Marvel film might suit Bradley better as I thought he'd make an excellent Hawkeye before Jeremy Renner landed the role. I'd be happy with either of them yet it's still in early stages of development so these won't be the only names attached to the reboot.

Mike White Not Directing Pride & Prejudice & Zombies

Deadline reports that Mike White has dropped out as director for Pride & Prejudice & Zombies. This is the second director who left the production. This time it's a contract conflict as White is obligated to work for HBO during Lionsgate's production timetable for the film.

The casting could also be in jeopardy as Anne Hathaway had been in talks along with James McAvoy to star in the movie. Anne is now starring in The Dark Knight Rises and might not be able to commit. Previously David O'Russell (The Fighter, Three Kings) was expected to direct Scarlett Johansson and Bradley Cooper in it before they all dropped out. Natalie Portman who was originally set to star is still producing.

Mike White Could Direct Pride, Prejudice & Zombies

Deadline reports Lionsgate has put out an offer to comedic writer and actor Mike White to direct Pride Prejudice & Zombies. White is best know for smaller roles in comedy films and writing School of Rock. It will be interesting to see if indeed Scarlett Johansson and Bradley Cooper who are rumored end up starring.

Pride, Prejudice & Zombies Could Star Johansson & Cooper

Now that David O'Russell has left Pride, Prejudice & Zombies to focus on Uncharted and Natalie Portman has also walked. Deadline has some interesting developments while there is a director race for the film which includes the front-runner Mike Newel (Prince of Persia, Donnie Brasco) it seems Scarlett Johansson and Brdley Cooper are attached to star.

Bradley Cooper Warner Bros' Top Choice For The Flash?

MovieHole reports that Bradley Cooper (Hangover, A-Team) is on the top of the Warner Bros' list to play The Flash. Cooper was inline to play Hal Jordon in Green Lantern at one point before the studio chose Ryan Reynolds. It doesn't look like Cooper will have to wait too long before movement starts on the film. Deadline reports that writers Marc Guggenheim and Michael Green will be delivering both scripts for The Flash and Green Lantern 2 by Christmas to the studio. The only problem according to Deadline is that there isn't a director in place and it's unlikely Greg Berlanti who was rumored will take the project.
