New Prometheus Images, First Good Look At The Cast

If Prometheus Performs Well There Could Be Sequels

When the Alien Prequel was originally announced it was pitched as a two part project. Later on when Damon Lindelof signed on for rewrites the film's connection to the franchise was almost severed. Leaving a few bits of franchise DNA in the newly titled Prometheus which seemed it would focus more on the origins of the company and the space jockey. Along with being very android focused perhaps telling the story from the prospective of David (Fassbender). There is now word from HollywoodReporter that if Prometheus does well at the box office which is very likely Fox will pursue more installments.

His directing wishes could be altered by how well his sci-fi epic Prometheus, which stars Charlize Theron and Noomi Rapace and opens June 8, 2012, performs at the box office. Insiders at Fox say the studio is already exploring sequel options"

It was stated that this film would be set thirty years before the events of Alien so there is a little wiggle room for more movies in the Alien universe. It's unknown how many if any crew members will come out of the film alive to reprise their roles. I believe it's box office success might end up coming down to it's rating while an R rating will appease fans of the franchise in the minds of the studio. A PG-13 rating is domestic gold and helps sell the movie overseas. However, all four of the original films were rated R and have been nothing but profitable for Fox. The Matrix trilogy being one the biggest successful R rated franchise it might be hard to get those kind of numbers.

Ridley also was expecting to make a bunch of sequels for Robin Hood before the Universal Pictures project went over budget and did very poorly at the box office. The film was an origin story rebooting the legend of Robin Hood which was setting up sequels along the way. Scott might be itching for franchise security since he's never really done one besides creating the Alien franchise. Only to hand it off to directors like James Cameron and newcomer David Fincher which cemented both of their careers. When he visited the set of Avatar it was said he felt the gauntlet was thrown down by Cameron. It's unknown if Ridley will return to the director's chair as he has many projects in development which includes a new Blade Runner film currently in the script phase.

My take is that I believe this world is rich enough to explore a lot of different avenues and I believe there are many stories that could be tapped in new films. Maybe developing the origins/exploring off-world colonies and even the united systems military. I feel the space marines are an important aspect of the franchise since they're eventually an arm of the company. It could be interesting to see Fox focus a movie on them establishing the bug-stompers. It was hinted in Aliens they've been up against similar hostile organisms before. While xenomorphs are tempting I wouldn't mind seeing other creatures or threats. Of course a completely new take could be just as exciting.

SPOILERS: Ridley Scott Talks Prometheus

I've used the heading SPOILERS to point out this whole article could ruin Prometheus if you read it so you've been warned. Ridley Scott while speaking with The Wallstreet Journal's blog Speakeasy he gave a small tidbits of details on Prometheus. Confirming that the Alien DNA is in the film stating "The last eight minutes of the “Prometheus” story evolve into “a pretty good DNA of the ‘Alien’ one".

This news leads me to believe there is a possiblity that Ridley and Fox could be considering a sequel which had been in the original plan. While setting up the alien world with Prometheus the next installment very well could end up being the Alien prequel that was originally intended. When the Alien prequel was originally announced there had been plans for two movies that would explain where the eggs, ship and Space Jockey came from. It's unknown how much of Prometheus will actually explain if anything of the mythology/origin of the aliens. I wouldn't be shocked if the film ended with a cliff hanger leading into the second film, if that plan still exists.

I had my doubts how they could make one origin story into two movies but establishing the human world, androids, the company's motives and colonies would be the first step, the second explaining the origins of the aliens. This of course is all speculation but it's going to be a massive treat for Alien fans like myself it does turn out this way. There has also been talk that Prometheus very well could be told from the prospective of David (Fassbender), one of the androids in the film.

Colin Farrell & Noomi Rapace To Star In Dead Man Down

ThePlaylist reports that director Niels Arden Oplev and actress Noomi Rapace will re-team for Dead Man Down. The pair previously worked together on the original Swedish version of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. Colin Farrell (Total Recall) will play the lead of the film. The film will be produced by Neal H. Mortiz and his Original Films. Mortiz has produced films like Jack The Giant Killer, R.I.P.D., 21 Jump Street along with Farrell's SWAT and Total Recall reboot.

"The crime thriller focuses on Victor played by Colin Farrell, a right hand man to an underground crime lord in New York City who is seduced and blackmailed by Beatrice (Rapace), a crime victim seeking retribution. Their intense chemistry leads them spiraling into payback delivered in violent catharsis."

Hayley Atwell, Kate Beckinsale & Diane Kruger Testing For Horizons

Deadline reports that actresses Hayley Atwell (Captain America), Diane Kruger (Inglourious Basterds) and Kate Beckinsale (Total Recall, Underworld 4) are currently testing for the second female role in Joseph Kosinski's (Tron Legacy) Horizons/Oblivion.

Tom Cruise and Jessica Chastain (The Debt) are already locked in as the leads. Oddly enough actresses who have been mentioned as possible options for the second role like Olivia Wilde, Brit Marling and Nooi Rapace aren't being listed.

Prometheus' Noomi Rapace Reveals Elizabeth Shaw's Backstory

While talking to MovieWeb, Noomi Rapace revealed some non-spoiler details about her character in Prometheus. Elizabeth Shaw is expected to be the central character which may or may not be similar to Ripley. Rapace gives some insight into the backstory of Shaw that ultimately gives us more depth than any previous character in the Alien franchise.

"I play Elizabeth Shaw, researcher and archaeologist. She's British but was raised in Africa because her father was a missionary. From him she learned to believe in God, and she has a strong inner self. She is the most complete person I have ever played. She has an inner light. She's very stubborn and determined. She lost her parents when she was a child, so she's been alone from a young age. But she's very intelligent. I know that when one has to survive alone from an early age, one becomes strong. But also fragile, because the hurt child within her hasn't been able to evolve in a natural way. You get easily hurt emotionally. She's full of hope, a dreamer, a little naive. Halfway through the movie a lot of things happen and she turns into a fighter. Another part of her comes to life."

Screenwriter Damon Lindelof recently confirmed that Vickers (Charlize Theron) would be in charge of the company that is funding the mission which is a change up from the familiar company stooge. He also stated David (Michael Fassbender) is indeed an android. During Comic-Con Ridley Scott confirmed the film would have at least two androids in the movie if not more, David now being one of them. There has been talk that Prometheus could be told from the point of view of androids.

Ben Foster Joins Prometheus, Patrick Wilson & Guy Pearce Confirmed

JoBlo reported back in July that Ben Foster (Messenger, Mechanic, Pandorum) had joined Ridley Scott's Prometheus. Along with that older news, rumored additions Guy Pearce (Memento) and Patrick Wilson (Watchmen) have been confirmed for the film.

Jessica Chastain Joins Tom Cruise In Horizons

ShowBlitz reports that 2011's it-girl of the moment Jessica Chastain in now in talks to star alongside Tom Cruise in Joseph Kosinski's (Tron Legacy) Horizons (formerly Oblivion). Jessica has been taking over screens starring in a massive amount of buzzed films in the last year that include Tree Of Life, The Help, The Debt, Take Shelter, Coriolanus and Texas Killing Fields. It's unknown if she's either playing Tom's character's wife or the mysterious girl who sets all the events in motion. They say the other actresses who tested that included Noomi Rapace (Dragon Tattoo, Sherlock Holmes 2, Prometheus), Olivia Wilde and other it-girl Brit Marling (Another Earth) could also still be up for a role.

Benedict Wong & Emun Elliot Join Ridley Scott's Prometheus

AlienPrequelNews is reporting that Benedict Wong (Moon, Sunshine) and Emun Elliot have joined Ridley Scott's Prometheus. Wong has Tweeted confirmation of his involvement but there isn't confirmation about Ellliot. It seems like the two could be playing crew members on the ship.

They join an impressive cast that includes Noomi Rapace (Dragon Tattoo, Sherlock Holmes 2), Michael Fassbender (Inglourious Basterds, 300, X-Men First Class), Charlize Theron, Idris Elba (Thor, The Wire, RockNRolla), Rafe Spall (Green Street Hooligans, A Good Year, Hot Fuzz), Sean Harris (Harry Brown, Red Riding Trilogy), Logan Marshall-Green and Kate Dickie

Logan Marshall-Green Joins Ridley Scott's Prometheus

Deadline reports that yet another actor has joined Ridely Scott's science fiction thriller Prometheus. It's Logan Marshall-Green the first American actor cast in the film. The up and coming actor is best known for his television work but played a rookie cop in the fantastic cop thriller Brooklyn's Finest. He will play Holloway a crew member  and love interest to Elizabeth Shaw (Noomi Rapace). This could be the role that Scoot McNairy (Monsters) had been linked to previously before joining Cogan's Trade.

The film boats a stellar casting mix that includes Noomi Rapace (Dragon Tattoo, Sherlock Holmes 2), Michael Fassbender (Inglourious Basterds, 300, X-Men First Class), Charlize Theron, Idris Elba (Thor, The Wire, RockNRolla), Rafe Spall (Green Street Hooligans, A Good Year, Hot Fuzz), Sean Harris (Harry Brown, Red Riding Trilogy) and Kate Dickie with a release date set for June 8th 2012.

Rafe Spall Joins Ridley Scott's Prometheus

ThePlaylist reports British actor Rafe Spall has joined Ridley Scott's Prometheus. Spall is best known for his roles in Hot Fuzz, Shaun of The Dead and Green Street Hooligans but has a lot of theater work behind as well. He also has worked with Ridley before on his amazing romantic comedy A Good Year alongside Russell Crowe. Rafe joins a stellar cast that includes Noomi Rapace, Michael Fassbender, Charlize Theron, Idris Elba, Sean Harris and Kate Dickie. The science fiction thriller is set to hit theaters on June 8th 2012.

Idris Elba, Sean Harris & Kate Dickie Join Ridley Scott's Prometheus

TheDailyMail is reporting that Idris Elba (RockNRolla, The Wire), Sean Harris (Red Riding Trilogy) and Kate Dickie have joined Ridley Scott's Prometheus. Their roles are unknown at this point but I wouldn't rule out a couple of them being suits from the company. The amazing cast also has Noomi Rapace, Michael Fassbender and Charlize Theron in the leads.

Scoot McNairy (Monsters) has been linked for a role as well but it's unknown if he'll end up in the movie. As he's set to be a lead in Cogan's Trade and could take a role in Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter.

There are some rumors suggesting that the story could involve the original aliens but might be unrecognizable from the ones in the original two films. Like how the alien in Alien3 was hosted by a dog and moved/looked different from the aliens hosted by humans. A planet used to grow bio-weapons could also be involved this might be the origin planet of the xenomorphs. Of course this is all speculation also with the persistent talk of the space jockey being in the film as well. Prometheus along with Elysium are two science fiction films I'm dying to see in 2012. No matter how much of the original alien is involved. I've been waiting a long time for Ridley Scott to return to science fiction and the quality of the cast he's trying to assemble speaks volumes to me.

Possible Concept Art From Ridley Scott's Prometheus?

LatinoReview claims the following concept art could be from Ridley Scott's Prometheus. They somewhat look familiar as something that we could have seen in the world that Ridley and James Cameron created. It's not impossible as some of the early concept art from Avatar did leak online before.

Scoot McNairy Might Join Ridley Scott's Prometheus & Other Big Parts

Deadline reports Scoot McNairy the star of the sleeper hit Monsters is up for a role in Ridley Scott's Prometheus. This won't be the only big part he's up for as he just joined Cogan's Trade and is in talks for Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. I'd personally rather see Scott take part in Prometheus as I feel he would make a great addition to the cast. The science fiction thriller set in the same universe as the original Alien film stars Noomi Rapace, Michael Fassbender and Charlize Theron.

David Slade To Direct The Last Voyage of The Demeter

HeatVision reports David Slade (Hard Candy, 30 Days of Night) will direct yet another vampire film. This time one based on actually lore and inspired directly from Bram Stoker's original Dracula novel. The Last Voyage of The Demeter tells the story of Dracula's voyage to London and the evil that is unleashed upon the crew/passengers during it. Ben Kingsley and Noomi Rapace were previously attached for the project but it's very likely they could leave to focus on other commitments.

Charlize Theron Joins Ridley Scott's Prometheus

HollywoodReporter confirms that Charlize Theron is now in final talks to take a role in Ridley Scott's Prometheus. Theron who joins Noomi Rapace and Michael Fassbender is cast in an unknown role. It's possible that it could be crew member Vickers. Michael Fassbender also confirmed to MTV that the film indeed is an Alien film and is set in the same universe. It's expected that the rest of casting should begin as most of the main roles have been filled.
