Spider-Man 4 Dead Rebooting In 2012?

Sam Raimi's Spider-Man 4 has been official killed. Sony Pictures has announced today they plan on rebooting the Spider-Man franchise without director Sam Raimi and Tobey Maguire in 2012. The reboot will focus on a young Peter Parker who is still in high school dealing with regular teen issues while still fighting crime and super villains. Sony will be working closely with Marvel Studios, Avi Arad and Laura Ziskin. They will be using a script written by James Vanderbilt (Zodiac). While they mention 2012 as the year of the reboot I'm unsure if they mean they'll release the film or it will shoot then. There had been talk of the next Spider-Man film being a two part epic shooting back to back and it might happen with the reboot. Although it's uncertain if both installments could be released in the same year.

It could be Sony's way to now compete with Marvel Studios, DC Entertainment and 20th Century Fox's X-Men franchise. This sounds like the perfect way to re-introduce a new/younger actor to play Spider-Man. We had been hearing how much of the original character of Peter had been lost when he quickly moved into college and really didn't get chance to play the dating field. Letting us missing out on many interesting female characters that revolve around Parker's life such as Gwen Stacy, Felicia Hardy and Debra Whitman. It would be nice to see the return of both Harry and Norman Osborne. Along with the possibles of seeing the return of the Green Goblin, Sandman and Doctor Octopus. Perhaps joining forces to finally give us the Sinister Six. There had been time consuming difficulties to re-signing both Sam Raimi and actor Tobey Maguire. It could seem to be holding back the studio's plans on making multiple sequels. The studio is going to have large challenges to replacing both Raimi and Maguire, let's hope they take advice from Marvel. My hope is that the reboot is similar to the Incredible Hulk, so we don't have to revisit a time wasting origin story.
