While it could be hard to introduce such a fantasy based character in the solo film. I could see Marvel Studios using Captain America to have him appear giving audiences insight to the C-list hero. We've seen the Iron Man franchise slowly introducing us to many possible spin-off characters (Nick Fury, War Machine, Black Widow). It's expected that the same could be happening with both Thor (Warriors Three, Valkyrie) and Captain America. Namor McKenzie and Steve Rogers teamed up in the Invaders during WWII. My assumption comes from the fact screenwriter David Self wrote both Captain America and Sub-Mariner which could lead to a team-up or crossover/cameo.
Producer Kevin Feige gave hints to CHUD over the summer that we could see the Invaders involved in the film. Feige has already confirmed Bucky Barnes in the film and it's assumed Issiah Bradley will make the film as well. If the Invaders do make the film it's possible the additions could include Union Jack, Spitfire, Miss America and Sliver Scorpion.
"Setting it in the Marvel version of WWII is going to open it up [to an international audience] in a big way. It'll actually end up being our most diverse and our most international film. In terms of the cast there's a group that [Cap] works with that will have an opportunity for much more international casting."
Namor McKenzie better known as Sub-Mariner is one of the oldest Marvel heroes being the first mutant to appear in the comics back in 1939. He is the son of a human sea captain and princess of the mythical undersea kingdom of Atlantis, Namor possesses the super-strength and aquatic abilities of the "Homo mermanus" race. We know that Marvel Studios and Universal have been working on the Sub-Mariner film since 2006. Below is a run down of known information on the project.
David Self previously did screenplays for Road To Perdition, Wolfman and The First Avenger: Captain America. He wrote an early draft for the film and I'm sure has gone through rewrites since.
Director Jonathan Mostow (Termintor 3, U5-71, Surrogates) has been attached to the project and is actively working on polishing the script. Collider got Mostow to give an update during press for Surrogates back in 2009.
"Well Sub-Mariner is sort of, like all things Marvel, in a shroud of secrecy. It's a project I've been developing, and we'll see what happens."
Jason Statham has been rumored for the role of Namor. He could be interesting in the role
notability for his experience as a successful action star and being an Olympic diver in his youth. Previously Frank Miller wanted him to play Daredevil in the 20th Century Fox reboot.
