Clash of The Titans Trilogy?

MTV caught up with director Louis Leterrier (Incredible Hulk). When asked about the future of Clash of The Titans sequels Louis revealed that there could be more if the first film is successful. Leterrier also somewhat confirms Sam Worthington could be returning. Recently screenwriters Phil Hay and Matt Manfredi also confirmed to MTV there has been talk of more films.

Leterrier:"We've talked about it loosely. Any movie of this size, [the studio wants] to know you won't hit a wall after your first movie. So they're like, 'If we green light your movie and give you the money, what's the idea for the sequel?' And you just give them some ideas. You draw an arc for your character. I'm not saying I know what exactly will happen to Perseus in the next two movies, but I know the direction and it's pretty exciting."

Leterrier:"If 'Clash' does well and we're lucky enough to make it into a franchise, that's what I'd love to do...Before the gods, there were the titans, there were even bigger creatures and monsters. That could be something. It's ancient superheroes."

Manfredi: During pre-production and production, we're throwing ideas at each other. We would all be incredible thrilled if people like the first one enough to warrant a second one. We have a lot of ideas — and Louis kind of has a master plan — about what you could do.

Hay: There are so many small stories to mine that don't make movies on their own but you can weave them together and create a comprehensive world. We all hope we get to do it. It would be thrilling.

I expected that the re-shoots were reported on could be to plant seeds for the next film. If we want to see more of these films the first one will have to do very well. I'm sure the 3D will help increase the box office numbers. Plus is doesn't hurt that they have Sam "Avatar" Worthington starring in another big 3D film.

MY THOUGHTS

The screenwriters mentioned blending smaller Greek myths together for an original film. I'm sure some concepts could include Pandora's Box, King Midas and the story of Daedalus and Icarus.

I believe some interesting Gods that could be featured in the original film could include Ares (God of War/Bloodlust), Thanatos (God of Death), Nemesis (Goddess of Vengeance) and The Erinnyes.

OTHER GREEK MYTHOLOGY PROJECTS

There is no question that Warner Bros. is interested in making more Greek mythology films. They previously adapted Homer's Iliad into Troy and are currently developing Homer's Odyssey. The project was announced back in 2008 with George Miller (Mad Max 4) attached to direct. Brad Pitt was in talks to star as Odysseus and would produce with Plan B. My only issue is that it would be a science fiction film. It's not the first time The Odyssey has been updated O Brother, What Art Thou? and Cold Mountain borrowed from it. I just think this film would work best if a direct adaptation using the Clash of The Titans formula. Since the supernatural elements being in contrast to Troy I could see The Odyssey becoming similar to COTT. Removing the science fiction aspect and bringing it back to it's swords-n-sandal roots. The fantastical elements include the sirens, cyclops and the witch Circe.

Another popular Greek mythology story is Jason & The Argonauts. In the original 1963 film Jason fought giants, harpies, the seven-headed hydra and an army of sword wielding skeletons. It seems like one of those classic adventure films that really could use a remake. Jason's epic quest for the Golden Fleece seems like the strongest contender for a reboot.
